After Warframe’s biggest update ever, Plains of Eidolon, which released on October 12 for PC and coming November for consoles, many who gave up on the game a while ago (myself included) picked up the game again to see what’s different.

Before the update the game was fairly decent. Progression consisted mainly of grinding missions, which may feel repetitive and boring to some. Though they may be boring at times,  most of the time grinding missions did not feel repetitive because the gameplay was very fun.

However, shooting and slicing things as a robotic ninja can only get so fun, and eventually the game can feel supersaturated. After a couple of hours, I took a several month hiatus from the game before picking it up again after the massive Plains of Eidolon update.

In a nutshell, the Plains of Eidolon update adds a huge open world area to the game that allows for a true MMO experience.

When I first launched the game, my first goal was to figure out what was different when I first played a couple of months ago. How was the open world area going to impact new players coming in for the first time? Will the new update allow the game to be able to compete with the upcoming sequel to Destiny, it’s main competitor?

Some of the questions that popped up in my head when I first launched the game were answered within a few hours of gameplay. As for new players, the open world area won’t affect them that much.

It will take them a couple of hours of gameplay to reach the new open world in the first place, and the enemies right out of the gate were tough, so some extra grinding was needed to be able to get the full experience out of the open world.

As for competing with the sequel to Destiny, Warframe should be able to retain a faithful player base that will continue to play the game often enough to compete with the Blizzard franchise.

In terms of viewer numbers, ever since the Plains of Eidolon update Warframe has consistently had better viewer numbers than Destiny 2 on Twitch, the main platform for video game livestreaming.

Overall, the Plains of Eidolon update adds an attraction that new players will strive to get to, the aforementioned massive open world. It also gives Warframe the boost it needed in order to compete with the popular Destiny franchise backed by the Blizzard corporation.

This update not only gives it a popularity boost, but it also makes the game more exciting with the new open world that players will seek to explore, which is necessary for the game’s bright future.
