The Hoover High football team started the 2023 season with a loss.
The Tornados lost against Pasadena Poly on Friday night with a score of 26-17 at Pasadena City College.
Daniel Baneham started the game with a field goal to make the score 3-0, giving Hoover its only lead of the game.
Pasadena Poly wrapped up the first quarter with a touchdown to make the score, 6-3.
“The way we started out was horrible and that’s just due to a lack of intensity in practice,” said Hoover quarterback Ethan Davis.
The Panthers scored another touchdown, making the score 13-3 with only 1:09 on the clock in the first half.
Pasadena Poly began the third quarter with its third touchdown to give it a 16-point lead.
Davis cut into the lead with a score and a two-point conversion to make it a one possession game.
The last quarter was a harsh battle between both teams, leaving many team members injured.
But the Panthers scored another touchdown with 6:07 left to put the game out of reach.
Hoover’s Joseph Dizon cut into the lead with the final score of the game with 4:02 left.
“It was a close game, our kids played hard all the way and never quit,” Hoover Coach Azad Herabidian said. “I’m looking forward to the next game.”
