Hoover High’s first school-wide assembly in three years was a memorable one.
Hoover held its first assembly in the gym since February of 2020 and it started off with a bang on Friday.
To start the assembly there was a “Mario Kart” race amongst the four administrators, as well as introductions of the staff; including counselors, the front office staff, as well as the custodians and class presidents.
“It was absolutely fantastic, it was so awesome,” Hoover Principal Jeremy Spurley said. “This is what Hoover’s about. This is what we need to continue.”
The assembly was planned by ASB Advisor Dr. Stepanyan and the ASB members.
The assembly; themed around Super Mario, was planned to welcome students back to Hoover and raise school spirit. There were many fun activities and performances.
Some of the activities were musical chairs, dodgeball, admin racing each other with scooters, a half court shot challenge and Hoover’s first dance off in four years.
There were also amazing performances from Hoover’s own cheer, dance, flag, and band teams.
Other interactive activities were having students from each grade cheering for their class to see who was the loudest, creating a very engaged and hyped up environment.
Another famous tradition Hoover has is booing the freshmen.
“It was amazing,” ASB President Ruzanna Vartazaryan said. “I thought it was the best assembly we’ve ever put on. The students were great, the seniors were very loud.”
Hoover math teacher WIlliam LeClear helped end the assembly with a singing of the alma mater.
“Could not have been happier that after not having the welcome back assembly for three years that we had it again,” LeClear said. “It is such a pleasure and a privilege for me because this has become tradition.”
