The Hoover girls’ volleyball team faced Pasadena on Tuesday in a Pacific League match, and came away with a 25-15, 25-14, 27-25 loss at home.
The first game started roughly for the Tornados, with Pasadena starting off with five consecutive points.
The next few rallies were close, and so the climax of the first game led the score to be 16-12 in favor of the Bulldogs. Then once again, Pasadena scored eight consecutive points. But trying the best it could, Hoover closed the gap slightly, but lost the first game.
The second game was also quite unfortunate for Hoover.
Pasadena scored five consecutive points to take an 8-2 lead.
Hoover once again tried to close in on this gap, but not enough as Pasadena scored more consecutive points, the score then was, 15-5. Bit by bit Hoover scored points little by little, but weren’t able to close the gap fully, and Pasadena won the second game.
The third and final game was the most enthusiastic one of the afternoon.
Hoover scored seven consecutive points, which energized the Hoover crowd. Hoover had a 24-18 lead and was one point away from taking the game. The Bulldogs responded with six consecutive points to tie the score and eventually prevailed with the win.
As much as it was an upset for Hoover to lose this game, the audience loved it nonetheless.
Dylan Paul Serrato, a junior at Hoover, had some words regarding the game. “I think that the game against Pasaden was really intense,” Serrato explained. “Hoover put up a really good fight during the game, but towards the end is when it was really great.”
Rebekah Sehwani, also a junior at Hoover, also a player for Hoover’s girls’ volleyball team, also had some words. “I think our team has good hustle when it comes to getting the ball.” Sehwani added, “There is always room to improve and our team has good chemistry on the court.”
Emma Canal, also a junior at Hoover, had some words not only about the game, but being an avid watcher of the girls’ volleyball team. Canal stated, “The energy built up after every set, on and off the court.” She went on further by saying, “It was fun to watch and cheer on our friends, win or lose.”
