Ever wonder how Hoover plans activites in and out of school?
The powerhouse is known as ASB (Associated Student Body).
ASB is in charge of poster making, game planning, event planning, senior events, fundraisers, assemblies, and best of all, promoting school spirit.
Dr. Edgar Stepanyan is the current ASB advisor. However, he receives approval and opinions from Hoover’s admin.
ASB’s focus right now is the annual BGD (Beat Glendale Day) Assembly and Game. BGD is the week about celebrating Hoover’s sports and rivalry against Glendale High School and eventually finishing with the annual football game against GHS.
The fun activities ASB has planned through their hard work are the annual poster droppings, the BGD assembly, including writing and planning the skits, making a ton of cool posters, and overall the game itself.
Something that’s not talked about often with ASB are the countless hours they’ve spent coming to school on the weekends to help paint posters so students can enjoy while walking around campus.
Additionally, ASB presidents are working with the admin to plan homecoming.
“We’re all together, we’re always doing something to help out the school,” said Milena Asatryan, the sophomore class president. “I would recommend this class to someone responsible and someone that works together.”
Junior Natalia Khodaverdi has been instrumental in helping plan the spirit days at the football game this year.
“We’re currently working on getting everything ready for BGD and homecoming, were working on the posters for BGD and all the activities,” Khodaverdi said. “The best part is you make so many new friends, like I’m friends with all the grades now and I barely knew any freshman in the beginning.”
Tina Davtyan, a sophomore in ASB, described ASB as a family.
“You get to collaborate, you get to participate, you get to share your opinions and you have everyone showing you and giving you respect, and just share our ideas,” she said.
“I would recommend this class to someone willing to put in time and effort to help around the school.”
The next time you see the amazing posters around Hoover, remember ASB.
