The Hoover High football team notched its second win in a row on Friday night, defeating Temple City, 34-27, on the road.
Temple City started the game with a touchdown with 9:42 left in the first quarter.
Not long after, Hoover’s kicker, Daniel Baneham made a field goal, making the score 7-3.
The next time Hoover got the ball, sophomore AJ Francisco managed to score a touchdown.
“We’ve been through a gauntlet,” said Hoover Coach Azad Herabidian “We played the hardest part of our schedule and it’s prepared us for the road ahead.”
The third quarter started with Javon Lymon running into the endzone, scoring a touchdown after being passed the ball.
Hoover then attempted a two-point conversion but failed, leaving the score at 20-13.
By the time there was 5:25 left in the third quarter, Hoover made two more field goals leaving the score at 26-13.
“The best part of the game was probably being able to keep up with them since they have a lot of talent on their team,” said Hoover receiver Davion Holloway.
With 4:23 left in the game, Temple City scored a touchdown and exactly 10 seconds later, scores another making the score 27-27.
Lymon scored another touchdown and Baneham made the extra point.
“This game was personal,” said Hoover quarterback Ethan Davis. “It was like a little rivalry. We beat them last year and our former coach was coaching with them so we had to go get it.”
Hoover (3-5) won’t play this Friday.
The Tornados will play Viewpoint on October 20 on the road before finishing the season with their annual rivalry game Glendale on October 26.
