The Hoover High boys’ water polo team upset Don Lugo, 15-11, on Tuesday in a first-round match of the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.
Don Lugo won the Mt. Baldy League championship and was victorious in 12 of its previous 14 matches.
The Tornados finished fourth in the Pacific League.
Hoover will play Buena Park, which had its own upset, a 12-4 first-round victory against Estancia, on Thursday in the second round. A victory against Buena Park would put Hoover in the quarterfinals.
