The Hoover High boys’ water polo team’s CIF run ended in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon as the Tornados lost to top-seeded Bonita, 12-8, at Glendale High.
The first quarter of the game was a tense back-and-forth game, which resulted in a 3-2 lead for Bonita at the end of the first quarter.
After a slow start from Bonita in the second quarter, Hoover took advantage and put one in making it 3-3 before Bonita hit back making it 4-3 at halftime.
The third quarter was similar to the others as Hoover opened strongly with a constant fight back from Bonita. Bonita had an 8-6 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter started slow for Hoover but quick for Bonita as it scored three consecutive to take a commanding 11-6 lead.
Hoover’s appearance in the quarterfinals was the first time the Tornados advanced to the final eight since 2016.
