The Hoover High wrestling team brought home two Rio Hondo League titles at Friday’s league finals.
Tornado senior Grickore Danelyan won his second consecutive league crown, claiming the top prize in the 175-pound division. Danelyan, a senior, won the 170-pound title last year.
“I made it here because of all of the support from family and friends, but most importantly from my coach,” Danelyan said. “Without Coach [Mazhan Isaeian] I wouldn’t have been able to get where I am and proudly stand at the top of the podium for a second time. Thank you, coach.”
Tornado junior Charles Martinito won the 126-pound championship in his first year at Hoover.
“It felt really good,” Martinito said. “ I wasn’t really confident, but I was pretty confident that I was going to get it.”
Danelyan and Martinito will next compete in the CIF Southern Section individual playoffs on Friday at Westminster High School.
