The Hoover High boys’ basketball team will play Savanna High School at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5AA playoffs.
The Tornados (13-12), ranked fifth in the division, received an at-large berth into the playoffs.
“I thank God we are ranked fifth because it helped us get into the playoffs,” Hoover Coach Jack Van Patten said. “It was a hard-earned, top-five ranking.”
Savanna (17-8) won the Orange League title with a perfect 10-0 league record and are on a 13-game winning streak.
Hoover defeated Glendale High, 57-55, on Thursday to end the regular season.
“It was a great win, everyone is happy as a team and it was really exciting. It was a great night,” said Hoover guard Zack Van Patten.
The winner of the Hoover-Savanna game will play Desert Chapel or San Bernardino in Friday’s second round.
