Hoover High named Frank Edward Vega as the new coach of baseball team.
Hoover finally found itself an experienced coach as Vega has had eight years of coaching experience.
Vega had experience playing baseball in high school, after which he moved on to coaching many little league, and all-star teams leading him to Hoover.
“What mainly inspired me was being able to get to know the kids and a chance to coach others,” Vega said.
Aside from his main, everyday job, Vega has decided to volunteer as the coach here at Hoover as a way of giving back to the community. Vega also stated that he plans on leading the team for a very long time.
“I want them to believe in themselves and I want them to know that every time they step on the field they have a chance to compete,” Vega said. “A lot of times teams think about wins and losses and they think of losses as a failure, I do not want them to think that way. I want them to think that winning and losing is something that they can’t control.’”
Vega has many plans for Hoover however; his main goal is to enable the players to have more faith in themselves.
“I just want them to go out and play as a team and know that they are a great team,” he said.
Players on Hoover’s baseball team are also very excited to begin the upcoming season with their new coach.
“The new coach is really friendly and welcoming,’” said Alex Weimar.
Added Isaac Johnson: ““He’s taken on a spot on our team that’s tough and he’s given us opportunities, and he’s just a great person overall.”
