The Hoover High softball team met Marshall High School once again on Tuesday after dropping its first game of the season. Its previous loss didn’t stop Hoover from making a stunning comeback.
Despite trailing by five runs early in the game, the Tornados came back and defeated Marshall, 12-10, at home.
Kim De Leon, Evelyn Ortiz and Paola Cano scored twice each for Hoover. The Tornados’ Hannah Parker, Giselle Ascencio, Arijana Matijasevik, Sophia Hernandez, Sam Marquez and Natalie Menasaka scored one run each.
“It was a great game for us,” said Hoover assistant coach Derek Parker. “We fell behind 8-3 early in the game, but as a team we did an awesome job fighting and we never quit and won the game. It was a great win.”
Ortiz, an All-Pacific League selection a year ago, served as the team captain.
“I thought the game was a great comeback,” said Ortiz. “Our ladies always stayed in there and we were always so supportive of each other. I think that is what carried us to victory.”
