The Hoover High track and field team had its third meet of the season at Burbank High School on Wednesday.
Although the Tornados didn’t finish first, they still had some personal-best times, with Hoover’s Kirsten Cannon having a time of 13.91 seconds for the 100 meters and Javon Lymon with 24.66 seconds for the 200 meters.
Ani Weimar had a PR in the 800 meters with a time of 2:52.63. Nathan Safarian also had a PR of 12:18.18 in the 3,200 meters.
Emma Canal ran the 1,600 meters, 800 meters, 3,200, and the 4×4 relay. During her 800-meter run, Canal had a new PR of 2:27.40.
“I feel very lucky, especially since I’m a junior. It’s a thrill running with your team and seeing everyone else PR as well,” said Canal.
Although this race was the first one for Canal coming back from break, she still started strong by getting third place for the 1,600 with a time of 5.24.89.
In the 3,200 she finished in fourth place with a time of 13.10.86.
“During spring break I did not run at all so my legs felt pretty fresh for this run,” said Canal.
Another runner that stood out was Breann Pimenta.
She secured first place in the 100 meters with a time of 13.40. She also took second place in the Long Jump with a jump of 13-07.00.
“They were better athletes today than they were last time,” Hoover coach Leya Buchanan said.
