Hoover students chalked the H on the steep hill behind the high school on Sunday.
Three students, Andrew Gadmiyan, Ruzanna Vartazaryan and Belinia Haritunian, joined 1998 Hoover grad Pete Mehrabian and ASB Advisor Edgar Stepanyan, along with his six-year-old son Micah, to chalk the H visible from most of Glendale.
“The Hoover H has been up on the mountain since the 40’s or 50’s,” Gadimyan said. “It’s an important tradition we love continuing as an ASB class. Although it is labor intensive and at times difficult because of the steep hill, it’s an incredible experience and allows us to spend time with our seniors in a fun and exciting setting.”
It took 26 bags of 50-pound chalk to brighten the H. The entire process, from walking up hill to the H to the actual chalking and cleaning up, took two and a half hours.
It was the third time that Micah Stepanyan chalked the H.
“It was really cool,” the first-grader said.
Added his dad: “It’s an experience that I cherish each year. We take pride in chalking the H and I love doing it with the students and it’s even more special for my son to join us.”
