Fashion is a way to express yourself while also fitting in. It brings confidence and power as students mix comfortable clothes with trendy accessories to showcase their unique styles.
As we dive into the latest trends, it’s clear that high school fashion is all about being comfortable and expressing yourself.
This year, students have noticed that most of the clothing is a mix of new and old, hinting at traces of the 2000s with baggy jeans and sweatpants. These all led to the style Y2K, where people find brands to merge with today’s fashion. When asked if students find interest in the style in general, Ella Asatori, a sophomore (27’) said, “I like it. But some people take it too far with the baggy pants.” Isabella Mathis, a freshman, also adds,”I think everyone tries to fit in with the trends, but others also have their own unique choices.”
One popular brand that many students admire is Brandy Melville. Brandy Melville is popular for their comfiness and everyday fashion. Mathis says “I love it, I’m literally wearing it right now.” Asatori, also adds that Brandy Melville has a lot of “Good basics” and “Good quality clothing”. Guys, however, tend to prefer brands like All Saints or Nike, with Nike Tech sweatsets being especially popular.
Some other fashion trends for girls are Edikted jeans, camo sweaters, and Lululemon. Some fashion trends for boys are Umpire jeans, Stussy sweaters and shirts, and All Saints.
Besides students following the fashion trends, teachers try to find their style. Ms. Julianna Salce, a new English teacher, thinks “A negative thing about trends is that they perpetuate hyper-consumerism.” She also adds that she thinks trends cycle too quickly, leaving you to buy more than you need. She talks about Brandy Melville and states that it was “iconic” when she was in middle school. Salce also talks about how she can’t find good fits often because of her height and wishes more brands sold petite sizes. Despite these challenges, she enjoys following fashion trends and does her best as a teacher to keep up with today’s style.
Today’s fashion trends are here for a reason. They all originated from different times and help people fully express themselves with their clothing choices. Everyone has a different style and that is what makes our generation special. These are some of today’s trends; whether you wear baggy pants or long skirts, Hoover’s wardrobe has it all.
