Hoover High School gladly welcomes Ms. Chelsea Stone to the English department. She works as a student teacher in Ms. Van Ackeren’s room and helps with whatever Ms. Van Ackeren needs. Having an old office job that didn’t satisfy her, she is following her passion and working hard to become an English teacher thanks to her love for stories. She said, “I love engaging in stories and sharing stories, and that was the big thing that specifically made me want to become an English teacher.” She wants to be able to teach people about them and inspire the love she has in other people.
When asked why she came to Hoover, she said, “I live nearby and the district assigned me to a school, but I also chose the Glendale School District because I’ve spent a lot of time here after I moved to LA.” Talking about moving to LA, she used to live in a small town in Illinois which was “in the middle of nowhere” as she put it, with around 700 people, which is one of the main reasons she came to LA when she was 20 years old.
She has a strong educational background, having a bachelor’s in English literature from SIU (Southern Illinois University), and currently working on a master’s in teaching. She aims to go into teaching full-time and be involved with the community at Hoover.
Besides working on being a teacher, she has many hobbies and interests. She loves to read and enjoys playing video games. Her favorite is a game called Baldur’s Gate 3, which is a story game where the game changes based on your decisions and is very similar to Dungeons and Dragons. She also likes plants and keeps many small ones around her house and has 2 cats named Amelia who is a Tortie and Oliver who is a Tabby.
Besides reading and playing video games, she also used to dance doing ballet, jazz, and even hip hop. She got some teacher training with it when she taught some dance classes and was also a tutor for a while. She also has babysitting experience as that is what she did when she started working.
With a love for stories and a goal of being a teacher, she will be an excellent addition to Hoover’s English department.
