Herbert Hoover High School’s Yellow Ribbon Week is an important event to create a sense of community and kindness among students. Taking place the week of January 21, and organized by Ms. Suri and the Associated Student Body (ASB), activities took place in the quad, the main spot for student gatherings.
The week included activities that encourage ethics and compassion. On Tuesday, students were shown a video about anti-bullying. Wednesday was all about support; students could wear yellow, get yellow wristbands, and tie yellow hair ribbons at lunch in the quad. Thursday involved writing kind words on Post-It notes by the Student Union. Friday, students could sign a pledge at lunch in the quad, supporting that Hoover is a “No Place for Hate” school.
We hope it has positively impacted the school community in recent years and will continue to do so. Natalia Khodaverdi, ASB Senior Class President, said,”These activities strengthen Hoover’s commitment to being an anti-hate school while bringing students together and promoting unity.”
Participating in Yellow Ribbon Week was simple. Students joined the activities in the quad, and took their first steps to support this effort.
