You’ve probably heard of Student of the Month (SotM) on Counselor Connect. SotM is a way to acknowledge and celebrate dedicated students’ individual achievements and choose the hardest-working students. Teachers nominate students to be the student of the month. One student at each grade level (9-12) is chosen from each department every month. They are then honored in a ceremony in room 12101 with parents and teachers invited. Every Student of the Month honoree receives a certificate.
How to become one?
Most students think they just need to work hard and have the highest grades. Maybe you’ve done that but never been chosen. What should you do to be student of the month?
The main idea of the “Student of the Month” is to encourage students to embody the principles of Responsible, Respectful and Engaged.
Here are the tips that can help you:
BE RESPONSIBLE
Being on time is the thing that shows your respect the most. It includes not only the first two periods, but all of them. If you do this, it would also help you improve your attendance, and it will bring you one step closer to the “Student of the Month”.
BE RESPECTFUL
Respect is one of the things that teachers appreciate. Good behavior, subordination, and showing understanding. These simple things are valuable not only for teachers but for all people. My advice is not to forget that teachers are people too, who have their families, problems. School is just part of their life, but not the whole thing. Just like you.
BE ENGAGED
Engaging in the study process is one more thing that represents students’ respect. Even if you do not have answers to all of the questions during the class, just try your best.
In conclusion, being selected as “Student of the Month” is largely influenced by your relationship with the teacher and their opinion of you. To increase your chances, it is important to not only achieve academic goals but also actively participate in class and build positive connections with both teachers and classmates.
