The Roadshow is an event held by Herbert Hoover High School to welcome upcoming middle school students from Eleanor J. Toll and Theodore Roosevelt. This event is held in the gymnasium, and the idea of it is to introduce students to Hoover and the courses it offers.
The Hoover community began this event last year at the end of January and passed it on to this year.
The process of setting up for the Roadshow begins way before it starts. The ASB class prepares welcome posters, entertainment for the students, and sets up the course tables. The drumline prepares music, the cheerleaders and dancers practice routines, and the staff organizes the event.
Mery Mnatsakanyan (’28), an ASB student, said, “Everyone put lots of effort into making the kids feel welcome and excited for their upcoming year at Hoover.”
Roosevelt students arrived earlier than Toll to enjoy a tour of the campus. After their tour was over, they came through the tunnel created by the students and got settled down. Later, Toll arrived, and Ms. Suri began her welcome speech.

When Ms. Suri finished her speech, students from different courses presented how each course works and the different aspects of them. One of the PSA (Public Safety Academy) students demonstrated putting on firefighter gear in less than 30 seconds as one side of their course.
The band team began performing the annual Hoover fight song to begin the entertainment portion of the show.
The cheerleaders performed first, followed by the flag and dance teams. Shortly after their performances, the students were released to look around the course tables, gather flyers, and investigate their interests.
After exploring for ten to fifteen minutes, the students were gathered by their teachers and taken back to school.
For incoming middle school students, the Roadshow was an engaging and educational experience that gave them an idea of the variety of courses and opportunities that are available.
“We have worked very hard to provide up-incoming students with all of the information they will need to have a successful first year,” said Iren Tsaturyan (’28).
Along with showcasing the school’s extracurricular and academic contributions, the event also makes the transfer to high school easier. The event effectively laid the groundwork for a successful and exciting future at Hoover High as the students left with new knowledge and a sense of excitement.
