Hoover Soccer had a game on Tuesday, February 4th where they played Glendale in an old-fashioned BGD game. Both Hoover teams put on a great performance, and what a game it was.
The JV team started first at 3:45, with Hoover beginning with the ball. The JV team started with a 3-5-2 for more midfield control thanks to the possessive play style they have.
The JV team went out in the first half and scored 3 goals. The first goal was a long ball played by Arame (26′) which Joshua Lim (26′) controlled and scored a 1 on 1. The second goal came from Manuel Meliksetyan (27′) who took it down the line cut in the middle and took a shot going over the keeper. The third goal came from Manuel again with a header this time, crossed in by Daniel Esekhanian (27′) when we got a corner finishing the half 3-0.
The second half started with the same people, but Glendale started playing really good offense and scored early in the second half. The game was a stalemate until Hoover received a foul around the halfway line which Arame kicked into the box and Glendale scored an own goal, sealing the victory for the Hoover JV team. The game ended 4-1 with Coach Monte Amirjanyan being very pleased with the performance saying “The boys had a great game, they executed the plan perfectly and brought intensity to the game from the first minute. They deserved this win.”
The Varsity game started at 5: 30, and they did not disappoint either.
In the first half, there was intense back-and-forth. Eventually, GHS came up and scored the first goal, but later in the half, Hayk Shabandaryan (27′) put a through ball to Sebastian Izaguirre (25′), who scored and made it 1-1. Then, near the end of the half, Sebastian played the ball to Davit Tagvoryan (26′), and he ran onto it and scored, putting Hoover up 2-1.
The second half continued with a long stalemate, lasting for most of the half. Sos Stepanyan (27′) played very good defense, limiting GHS’s offense and even getting a goal-line clearance. Hoover kept up the defense, and at the end, Areg Gevorgyan (26′) scored, and the game finished off 3-1 Hoover.
“The Game was intense from the start, and we dominated possession controlling the match.” Coach Harry Tachian said after being asked about the game. “We identified and targeted their weakness, successfully capitalizing with some great goals. I am proud of how my team played as a group, securing an unforgettable farewell win on senior night”.
The games against Glendale were a great success and a great way to end the season for both JV and Varsity.
