Herbert Hoover High School has hosted its annual open house event, inviting all Hoover students, family, and friends.
Hoover holds this event each year so families can visit our school to learn more about the opportunities, community, faculty, and activities. Families love this event, because it is so valuable to get a firsthand experience of where their child is and will be attending for the next couple of years. This year had major weather complications like heavy rain with the temperature being 56 degrees. However, this did not stop the event from continuing, so it was moved from outside into the big gym. Even with the heavy rain, the event was still fun.
When families attend an open house, they might feel a mix of emotions like excitement, curiosity, nervousness, as well as a sense of community, comfort, or even a bit of nostalgia.
We had multiple departments at the open house, such as our Early College Academy, English department, science department, math department, and more. English teacher Pateel Eulmessekian, otherwise known as Ms. E, attended the event and said, “There was a way better turnout than expected because of the weather, I did see a lot of students bringing their families with them to talk to their current teachers, to talk to potential coaches,” said Ms. E. “I think it was a good way for parents to see all of the departments in one space so they could get a concrete idea as to what Hoover is and how it supports the students.”
“We had a ton of middle school parents and ninth-grade parents asking us [questions]. They wanted to know everything about the program, how they could get involved when the applications were. We gave out tons of material, talked to tons of students and parents. It was a very busy night for us,” said Kimberly Corpuz, who was managing with colleagues at Glendale community college, for Early College Academy.
Our open house was a great success offering students new opportunities, new connections, and a great community. Please attend our next open house next year! Dates will be announced when the time comes. `
