Starting next year, Hoover High School will have a different bell schedule. Teachers will vote on whether it will be a modified block or a traditional schedule.
A traditional schedule is like a banking day, where all class periods happen, but this would be every day. I believe that this would be the best course ahead for Hoover, and I hope teachers vote for it.
Now, I know most students may be thinking that we will get more homework if we have more classes throughout the day. The answer to that question is likely no, because most teachers give barely any homework nowadays.
Another reason why the traditional schedule is more beneficial than the block schedule is that most people in our generation have a shorter attention span due to apps like TikTok, Instagram, etc. If we are in one class for too long, we get bored with it and lose attention.
You may also wonder: What if we get less work done since we have less time throughout the day? The answer to that question is also likely no, because you are going to have the same time as a block schedule.
A traditional block schedule is more beneficial because most math and language teachers believe you need to be practicing every day to have a better grade, so having those classes every day may help you learn quicker and understand better.
I also believe that frequent change throughout the day will be beneficial for students and staff, because students will have classes that they don’t like for less time, and teachers will feel more engaged with their students.
These are some of the reasons that I believe our traditional schedule is better than a block schedule.
