On April 24, all GUSD schools will have the day off to honor and acknowledge the lives taken in the Armenian Genocide. GUSD will hold events to educate students and staff about the genocide and how it started. These events will happen in collaboration with the Genocide Education Project.
GUSD will also help organizations and the community raise awareness, such as a march through Hollywood. On April 22nd, there will be an event on the Hoover High School campus that includes dancing, music, food, and celebration. Students will be able to paint and leave their handprint on a poster that will be hung up for Armenian Heritage Month.
According to Nadia Murad, a human rights activist, said “When genocide is committed, it must be seen.”
We all must continue to honor and acknowledge the lives taken from us and not see it as a grieving day, but instead think of it as a day to celebrate the people taken.
