On April 30th, the Youth Enjoying Astronomy Club hosted an Astronomy fair called “Solar Astronomy Viewing” from 5-7 pm. The event featured cool posters and activities. The main event was science teacher Eric Robinson’s Power Point about light and sound.
Glendale Central Library hosted the event, and the club members provided complimentary snacks so attendees could graze and view the poster displays.
Mr. Robinson went into depth about the topics Planetary Science, Simulations, and spectrophotometry. He demonstrated physics principles such as kinetic energy by dropping two tennis balls, one from a higher place than another, and viewers observed the ball dropped from the greater height made a louder noise.
Mariia Tumanian (’28), who attended the event, remarked, “It was a great opportunity as someone who enjoys astronomy. The way [Mr. Robinson] taught us was very in-depth and easy to understand.”
The members of the Astronomy Club were very welcoming and immediately showed people around. The library itself was beautiful with high ceilings, a huge clock, and modern design. The children’s area had mats, so you could sit on the floor, many games and a quiet reading area for people to study or focus. Attendees might have come for the science, but hopefully they will return to take advantage of the other features of the Glendale Central Library.
If these topics sound interesting to you, think about joining the YEA Club, or attending their next event. Contact Mr. Robinson for information about the club.
