If you still on the edge about joining a sports team, it doesn’t hurt to attend tryouts and see how you do.
Being a part of a sports team is a great opportunity to make new friends, build your physical and mental health, and make fun and lasting memories.
Another benefit of being in a sports team is gaining and honing leadership skills, as having a leadership position allows you to motivate, guide, and teach your fellow players. By being in a leadership position, you set the example. This is a great way to better yourself, by showing your peers that they can look up to you and respect you.
Additionally, sports teams can teach valuable time management skills. As an athlete, you would have to learn to balance school, your sport, and your social life. By learning this at a young age, you will be more prepared to balance life in the future.
Here are some thoughts from students in sports teams:
Amy Ross (’26), member of the girls water polo team says, “Being in water polo taught me how to be resilient and to keep working hard.”
Savannah Studebaker-Sanchez (’26), member of the girls tennis team explains how “being on a team is such a fun experience, making new friends, and enjoying the love of a new sport with a team supporting you.”
Rebekah Sehwani (’25), member of the girls volleyball says, “It brought me out of my comfort zone and led me to make amazing friends and unforgettable memories.”
So don’t miss out on the opportunity to tryout for the many sports teams at Hoover, you may just make memories of a lifetime!
Don’t forget to bring a completed tryout waiver form on the day of tryouts! You need it in order to participate. (https://s3.amazonaws.com/scschoolfiles/3194/release_of_liability-assumption_of_risk_agreement_new_1_1.pdf)
