The Welcome Back Assembly at Hoover High was an awesome way to kick off the school year.
It started with the PEP team cheering everyone on, instantly hyping up the crowd and bringing school spirit.
“I feel really energized. It was way better than the past two years because now that I’m an upperclassman, there was a lot more energy,” Hoover junior Sophia Engstrom said.
Next, the ASB students put on a fun skit they created, which had everyone laughing and excited for what’s ahead this year.
“I think the skit went amazing for the first assembly,” Hoover ASB member Sadie Peters said. “This assembly is the hardest out of all of them because, as a whole, it takes a second to understand the mechanics of how to put one together. I think with it being [ASB Advisor] Ms. [Janna] Kasmanian’s first year as the ASB advisor, it went very smoothly.
“I can’t wait for the future skits and assemblies.”
Then the cheer team, dance team, and PEP flag performers took the stage to show off their amazing routines. Their energy and teamwork really got the crowd going.
“As a team, we did very well,” Hoover sophomore Izabella Hovanessian said. “I’m very proud of the new members and everyone in general for coming together and performing this amazing dance.”
After the performances, it was time for some friendly competition. Students played games like musical chairs and had a half-court shot contest, having a blast while the audience cheered them on.
“My favorite part was probably the half-court shots,” Hoover senior Derek Haroutonian said. “With me being on the basketball team, it’s nice seeing people try my favorite sport.”
The assembly ended on a meaningful note with Hoover math teacher William LeClear leading everyone in singing the iconic alma mater. His powerful voice and the crowd’s unity made it a special moment, reminding everyone why Hoover High feels like home.
“I am honored to lead the student body in the alma mater at the end of our assemblies,” LeClear said. “I’ve had the great opportunity to do it for years, and it is an absolute pleasure.”
