The Hoover High football team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Nordhoff, 31-13, on Friday night.
The stands were excited to see the outcome of this game with Hoover’s dominant opening-season 51-7 win still in everyone’s heads.
The players on both sides came out with confidence and started out strong.
Hoover wide receiver Angelo Bailey scored a touchdown with 4:37 left in the second quarter as the Tornados tried to remain close.
“I feel like as a team, because of our win last week and the blowout on Marshall, we came out thinking it’d be easy as it was last week,” Bailey said. “It’s just something we got to pick up on [during] practice.
“Pick up the energy you know, except that not every game is going to be that easy and it’s only harder from here.”
During the third quarter, Hoover receiver Aeden Aceves scored Hoover’s second touchdown with 9:02 left on the clock.
“I think I did okay,” Aceves said. “The team executed sometimes good, sometimes bad. I [tried] to do my job as best as I could, but I ended up with a couple drops. So overall it was alright.”
Hoover Coach Jordan Ward said his team left plays on the table.
“We’ve got to do better going into our week of preparation and we’ve got to do better with our intention every day,” Ward said.
“I have full faith and confidence in our standard as a program.”
