The Ukrainian Club at Hoover High School is bringing culture, friendship, and support to students, offering a space to learn about Ukrainian traditions, celebrate holidays, and make a positive impact through fundraising.
The Ukrainian Club at Hoover High School is a place where students can learn about Ukrainian culture, make friends, and help others. The club’s main goal is to share traditions and support Ukrainian students, as well as anyone interested in the culture.
Another big focus is fundraising to give aid to people in Ukraine.
“Everyone is welcome to our club,” explained one of the club’s presidents Liana Tarkhanian, who is ethnically Armenian but was born and raised in Ukraine.
“You don’t need to be Ukrainian to join. We want students to learn, make friends, and help through meaningful activities.”
Another club president shared her perspective on the club’s mission.
Inesa Hevorhian explained that being part of the Ukrainian Club is an honor because it allows the team to share culture, bring students together, and help newcomers feel welcome.
‘’For me personally, it means to be a part of a big culture and I am really proud to have this background and have something in common with this wonderful country,’’ Hevorhian shared.
The club plans to celebrate important Ukrainian holidays like Easter (Velykden/Великдень) and Vyshyvanka Day/День Вишиванки. These events will often be paired with fundraising efforts, such as selling food, crafts, and ponchiks.
All proceeds will go to charities that provide support and assistance to people in need in Ukraine.
Meetings will also be a chance for students to share experiences, thoughts, and stories while offering feedback and moral support. Beyond culture and charity, the club is about building unity.
“We’d love to collaborate with others to bring our school community closer together,” Tarkhanian said.
The Ukrainian Club continues to bring culture, friendship and support, giving students a place to connect and make a meaningful impact.
