Your future is in your hands, and we only live once, so why not chase the career that makes you happy? Doing what you love can turn work into passion, and passion into success.
Many students feel scared about choosing the wrong career, worried they might make a mistake that affects their whole future.
‘’Sometimes I think I have to choose a medical career because I’ll be confident that I have a stable job, but I hate everything related to medicine. So I feel stuck between choosing a safe job and my dream job,” senior Liana Tarkhanian shared.
It’s normal to feel nervous when deciding on a path.
“Of course, I’m thinking about this every single day,” Tarkhanian said. “I’m not really confident about which career I like because I change my mind often, and I could easily make a mistake.”
However, stories from Hoover alumni Rubina Arakelyan who switched her major from biology to art, show that following your passion can be worth it.
‘’Art has been my passion since I was a kid,” Arakelyan said. “In chase of stability and a good salary I forgot that it is also important to do what you love. I decided that I live in a country that provides me the opportunity to get paid well and do what I really want, so I switched from biology to art.’’
“I knew it since I was a little kid. I discovered science when I became a teenager, more as a hobby. When I changed my major, it was nothing but a relief.”
Both the student and the alumni agreed that enjoying your career matters most.
“If you don’t have a job you enjoy, you’re going to hate your life,” Tarkhanian said.
Arakelyan offered more advice to students following behind her.
“Always follow your heart! No matter what anyone tells you, your major determines what you will be doing for the rest of your life. Enjoy what you’re doing and you will earn from it well!”
