The Hoover High Culinary Club gives students hands-on experience in cooking, teamwork, and creativity, meeting once a month during lunch. Led by Culinary Arts teacher Veronica Peltekian, the club lets students explore cuisines from around the world while learning practical kitchen skills and safety.
“The goal of this club is to inspire students to be creative and confident in the kitchen,” Peltekian said. “We focus on hands-on skill development, teamwork, and cultural exploration through food.”
Club President Timothy Navarsartian shared that the group plans to host a fundraiser this year to support future cooking projects and community efforts.
“Always cook with love,” Navarsartian said.
The club also emphasizes community involvement. Members have helped cater teacher appreciation lunches and school fundraisers in the past. Sophomore and vice president Maya Melikyan said the club plans to sell some of the dishes they create to raise funds for charitable causes.
“Food is the common denominator that brings people together,” Melikyan said.
The Culinary Club is open to all Hoover High students, regardless of experience level. Meetings are held monthly, and students can join by talking to Peltekian or attending a meeting.
Ultimately, the club aims to provide an enjoyable learning experience that promotes healthy eating habits, cultural appreciation, and essential cooking skills, while also giving back to the community through fundraising and donations to local food banks.
