Resident Evil 7: biohazard

Resident Evil 7 is arguably the one game that brought back resident evil to its prime. Resident evil 4 was the last game that sold a solid amount of copies, that was in 2005! Capcom has made other games so they didn’t go bankrupt, but they have not been in a great financial spot for more than a decade. Surprisingly they took a different spin on resident evil and it went really well for them. There have been many long time fans coming back and that is always a good thing.

The plot –

When you first start the game you are known as Ethan and your wife has been missing for 3 years. Recently you have found out that she is inside of an old abandoned mansion. You have no idea what you are going to get into, all you know is many cops have never returned. You are going alone into this mess and don’t know if anyone lives there. You soon realize that your wife is possessed by someone and is doing the same to this family that has lived there for years. I don’t want to spoil anything but eventually you will be killing every single one of them. This is one of the scariest games in the series so get ready for a lot of weird feelings and a lot of jump scares.

Gameplay –

Resident evil has always been in a 3rd person point of view, but they changed it up and made it a 1st person point of view to make it a more intense game. If you have played the previous games, then switching to a 1st person might feel different but you do get used to it after a couple of minutes. The game places a lot of items everywhere and gives a limited inventory space, you can put the extra items inside of boxes in safe rooms, but there are many things you’re going to need and it’s very hard to sacrifice something. There are many weapons in the game and they get better the further you get in the story. There is crafting in the game so you can make more space by combining items like materials to make health bottles or ammunition. There are moments where you fight the same person like “daddy” so always be aware of your surroundings when you’re not in a safe zone. You will also encounter a lot of monsters and I would suggest you kill them with your pistol and save your shotgun ammo and SMG ammo for boss battles, because most bosses have a ton of health. When you are going through minor enemies try to aim for the head because they die quicker and get set back for a second, allowing you to relocate. If this is your first time playing the resident evil game I would suggest you to play on easy or medium mode,  because going to hard mode is one of the most tedious things to do, it will at least take you 15+ hours.

The Verdict –

Resident evil 7 might be one of the best horror/fps games of early 2017. It has great puzzles and heart racing moments. It might not top outlast, but it does come very close. It has great characters with different attitudes. This would have gotten a high rating but they made things very repetitive, for example after the 2nd  time you try to kill each character you get tired and don’t want to fight the same one a 3rd time, but other than that anyone that likes horror games should give it a try and experience the game.
