This year, Kavika Kapoor (’19) introduced the United Nations International Emergency Fund, also known as UNICEF, as a new club on campus.
Through the UNICEF club she intends to spread awareness and raise funds for children in underdeveloped and developing countries who do not receive the same privileges and opportunities as we do living in America.
“Many people in our community are ignorant to worldwide problems,” Kapoor said. “They are oblivious to the suffering that occurs in the world.”
In today’s society, students are only concerned about trivial matters, such as their status on social media, and pay less attention to how privileged and lucky they are to live in this country.
“UNICEF club is a good opportunity for students to make a difference outside of their communities,” Kapoor said.
The UNICEF club will be holding an event known as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF from October 30 to November 3. Participating students will be carrying around small donation boxes to collect money contributions of any size from local neighbors. The collected donations will aid in paying for medicine and supplies for suffering children around the world.
Donations as small as fifty cents can equate to a vaccine that can save a life. All students are welcome to participate.
