At the battle of the barricade, Eponine saves Marius’s life by stepping in front of a bayonet. She is ushered behind the barricade where she tells Marius not to worry. She tells him that nothing can hurt her now, not even “a little fall of rain.” For the rest of the song, Marius holds Eponine in his arms as she slowly fades away.
