The Hoover High baseball team defeated Rosemead, 2-0, on Tuesday in a nonleague game at home, winning its first game under new coach Frank Vega.
“This is a great group of kids,” Vega said. “They believed in each other and from the moment the game started to the very end they were positive. That’s what it takes. You just have to believe in yourself; when you do that, you can accomplish anything, and that’s what they did.”
Steve Park and Owen Marks scored Hoover’s runs in the second inning.
“If you do good during the game you have to continue the good work; you can’t stop,” Hoover’s Isaac Johnson said.
Hoover had started the season with a loss to Flintridge Prep, but improved to 1-1 with the win.
“The team did well today,” Hoover freshman Alex Weimar said. “We all tried our best and succeeded, and we can’t wait for the other opportunities and the games to come.”
Hoover will next play Gabrielino on Friday.
Said Hoover captain Bryan Olmedo: “Last season we didn’t do well but this season I see real potential in all the players and we hope to have good matches throughout the rest of the season.”
