The Distinguished Scholars Academy (DSA) is an academic recognition program here at Hoover. It provides exceptional resources for achieving students, like field trips to universities, college and career preparation opportunities, guest speakers, and more.
Every grade level has their own DSA, and each club does their own fundraisers and has separate meeting dates. The money raised from fundraisers goes to providing field trips for DSA students.
9th graders can be eligible to join DSA if they have a 3.8 GPA from middle school and maintain a 3.5 GPA in high school. 10th graders are required to take one AP/Honors class while 11th and 12th grades are required to take two AP/Honors classes.
DSA students must attend all meeting dates, with only two absences allowed each semester. Students must also complete 10 community services hours per year and maintain a 3.5 GPA, which are checked every semester.
The goal of DSA is to encourage students to take rigorous courses and to provide them with resources that will better their college applications and preparation, while also motivating students to apply to a 4 year university straight out of high school.
The counselors run their respective grade levels DSA with the help of the student cabinet. Main positions of the student cabinet include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicist.
Shervin Naeli (’26), Vice President of DSA ’26 said, “Here at DSA, our sole focus is empowering our students to go beyond the status quo. It is our duty to show students what life will be like after high school, and help them get there in one piece!”
