Costumes, candy, and creativity, Halloween has always been a favorite holiday for many Hoover students. From nostalgic memories of childhood costumes to strong opinions on the best and worst candies, students are keeping traditions alive while adding their own twists each year.
After all, for some students, the holiday brings back sweet memories.
“My favorite costume I’ve worn was when I was 4 or 5 years old,” senior Aylin Asadi said. “I wanted to be Superman for Halloween, and my family didn’t want me to, but my dad got me the costume secretly. I had cute pigtails with a red cape, and it was so so cute, might recreate this year.”
Of course, Halloween wouldn’t be complete without candy. But not every treat is a crowd-pleaser.
“People think candy corn is bad, they haven’t tried the mints. Banana-flavored anything is disgusting, too,” senior Natali Hovhannisyan said.
Beyond just candy, when it comes to costumes, creativity matters, but some ideas are worn out.
“I think the cop and prison costume is overused,” senior Rita Ohanessian said. “I see it every year, and I got tired of it after year two.”
From Superman capes to controversial candies, Hoover students are keeping the Halloween spirit alive in their own ways. Whether they’re bringing back old favorites or steering clear of tired trends, the traditions remain a special part of fall on campus.
