Hoover High School proudly welcomes Dr. Houri Keuroghlian as its new assistant principal for the 2025–2026 school year. With more than 20 years of experience in education and leadership, Dr. Keuroghlian is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for both students and staff.
Before joining Hoover, Dr. Keuroghlian served as a Teacher Specialist at Columbus Elementary School for ten years. She also worked as a Special Education Teacher Specialist for three years and taught Special Education at the high school level for eight years. Her extensive background has given her a deep understanding of student needs and a passion for creating positive, engaging learning experiences.
“As an assistant principal, my goal is to help students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed,” Keuroghlian said. “I want to be a leader who listens, advocates, and helps all students grow into confident and capable young adults.”
Principal Jeremy Spurley shared why Dr. Keuroghlian was the right choice for Hoover’s leadership team.
“Dr. K comes with a wealth of experience—not only at the high school level but also across other schools in Glendale Unified,” Spurley said. “She really understands how to build a strong campus culture and keep students engaged, which is one of our top goals at Hoover. We’re excited to have her on our team as we continue moving in the right direction.”
This year, Dr. Keuroghlian will serve as the 10th-grade assistant principal, overseeing student discipline and support for the sophomore class. She will also manage campus safety, lead the school’s security team, and supervise all testing programs, including PSAT, CAST, and AP exams.
Her presence on campus has already made a strong impression. Despite the hectic PSAT testing day, she took time to support a student through a difficult moment with professionalism and care. Colleagues describe her as kind, patient, and deeply committed to the Hoover community.
“She actually knows many of our students from her time at Columbus, which helps her build strong relationships right away,” Spurley added. “Her ability to connect with students and families, along with her calm, compassionate approach, makes her a perfect fit for the culture we’re building here at Hoover.”
School counselor Olga Iraheta praised Dr. Keuroghlian’s visibility and engagement on campus.
“Dr. Keuroghlian is consistently visible and caring,” Iraheta said. “She greets students in the hallways, attends events, and checks in during passing periods. With staff, she listens attentively and maintains a positive, collaborative tone. Her presence creates a sense of calm and trust.”
Iraheta also highlighted Dr. Keuroghlian’s approachability and dedication.
“She’s incredibly warm and approachable,” Iraheta said. “Students feel comfortable seeking her out because she listens without judgment and offers thoughtful guidance. She’s empathetic, patient, and always advocates for what’s best for students.”
Counselor Neala Ebrahimi echoed those sentiments.
“Her dedication will have a positive impact on both students and staff, especially in building a supportive environment,” Ebrahimi said.
With her years of experience in Glendale Unified, Dr. Keuroghlian brings a deep understanding of the community and its students. Colleagues describe her as collaborative, positive, and always willing to help.
Dr. Keuroghlian summed up her leadership philosophy simply:
“My motto has always been: Be fair, be firm, and always be kind,” she said. “I’m honored to serve this amazing school community.”
