Sean Fox, a 2024 Hoover High School graduate, has gone from drawing art to sculpting his body — and now, he’s a champion.
Fox won first place in the OCB West Coast Warrior Classic Physique Teen and Debut competition held Saturday in Hermosa Beach. The victory marked the result of years of dedication in the gym.
After graduation, Fox attended Gnomon Art School in Los Angeles to pursue a career in art. But even while focusing on his studies, bodybuilding remained a major passion.
“It was quite difficult, but I was doing well,” Fox said. “After nearly four years of lifting, I decided to try competing in my first show because I have so much passion for bodybuilding.”
Fox’s journey took an unexpected turn a few months after graduation when he suffered second-degree burns across his abdomen. The injury happened when a sealed shaker bottle filled with boiling water burst, spraying him as he left for work.
“I had the lid closed, and when the bottle turned, it popped open, spraying me like a jet,” Fox explained.
The accident forced him out of the gym for nearly two months. Despite the setback, he made a quick recovery with no scarring or long-term damage. Once healed, Fox was determined to return stronger than ever.
“I needed to keep my skin looking even if I wanted to present my best physique,” he said. “That was a big priority at the time.”
When competition day arrived, Fox said he felt a mix of excitement, nervousness, and pride. His hard work paid off when his name was called the winner.
“I had a group of people around me who believed in me,” he said. “In that moment, I was so glad to give them something back — to show them that their support really mattered.”
Fox said he hopes his story encourages other students to stay committed to their passions, no matter the challenges.
