With just six days left until the annual Beat Glendale Day (BGD) event, Hoover’s ASB students are feeling the pressure as preparations reach their peak.
ASB President Milena Asatryan described the excitement and effort that go into making the event a success.
“BGD is a time where ASB comes together like a family,” Asatryan said. “The preparations take so much effort and time, but once BGD actually happens, it’s such a relief off our shoulders. It’s an amazing experience, and we all enjoy it so much.”
ASB Advisor Janna Kasmanian shared what it’s like guiding the student leaders through the demanding preparation process.
“It’s a lot of work—organization, patience, practice, communication, group work, and teamwork,” she said.
Kasmanian, in her first year as ASB advisor, reflected on what she has learned from the experience.
“BGD is really important to the students. They have so much fun with the activities, and it’s great to see how passionate they are about it,” she expressed.
Senior ASB member Erika Aleksan and junior member Elenia Mardirosian described how the team works together to make BGD happen.
“There’s lots of germs, sweat, and tears—but it all ends with so much happiness,” Aleksan said with a laugh.
“It’s such a joyful ride,” Mardirosian added. “It’s a lot of work because you’re representing your whole class for this one big event. It’s the biggest thing we do, and it takes so much effort.”
Mardirosian reflected on how special the experience has been throughout her time in ASB.
“BGD is such a special event,” she said. “I remember my freshman year—it was really different. We spent months preparing, so many hours after school, and it was stressful at times. But you grow so close to everyone through that process. No matter what the results are, it’s always rewarding to see everything come together and watch the audience enjoy it.”
Despite the stress, both Aleksan and Mardirosian agreed that the experience is worth it every single year.
“Even with all the hard work, we’d do it all over again,” they said.
