The Hoover Tornado Marching Band claimed their second—and sunniest—victory of the season on Saturday at Bellflower High School, competing in the Mayfair Monsoon Classic.
The HTMB earned an impressive score of 76.700, securing both the tournament and division championships. They also received top honors for high music, high percussion, and high general effect.
“We had a great performance on Saturday,” said HTMB band director Melissa Campbell. “The marching band worked hard to persevere through the weather and other challenges of the day—and still came out on top.”
Despite the scorching heat, the band’s energy and motivation never wavered.
“It was extremely hot, which could have impacted our performance, but we were able to push through and have a good run,” explained drum major Erin Lee. “I could feel during the performance that everyone was excited, and that excitement made me hyped up.
“Personally, I was struggling because of the heat, but everyone gave me the energy I needed to perform.”
