Due to Covid-19, the plans for fall sports have changed drastically. The CIF Southern Section Fall Sports Championships are cancelled for the year 2020-2021, the CIF announced on Tuesday morning.

The whole season of fall sports is not cancelled, only the Southern Section championships.

“This is not a surprise,” Hoover athletic director Jack Van Patten said.

The Pacific League schools — which include Hoover, Glendale, Crescenta Valley, Burbank, and Burroughs — will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday to discuss whether to hold a regular season, Van Patten said. A decision is expected by Wednesday evening.

Why were the playoffs cancelled? The fall sports — football, girls’ volleyball, and boys’ and girls’ water polo —  are still mostly in the purple tier instead of moving to the orange tier. What does this mean? Well speaking in Covid language, purple is where the Covid-19 cases are still high, when in orange, the cases start cooling down.

According to CIF, no CIF Southern Section Championship, CIF state regional, or state championships will occur. If assuming that it would continue, the following will be the end dates for their seasons.

Boys/Girls Cross-Country: Saturday, March 27, 2021

8-Man Football: Saturday, Apri 3, 2021

11-Man Football: Saturday, Apri; 17, 2021
