Dr. Romela Khachikyan is going back to her alma mater.
Known affectionately around campus as “Dr. K,” Dr. Khachikyan will serve as an assistant principal at Glendale High School this fall, concluding an eight-year tenure as an administrator at Hoover High School.
Throughout her time at Hoover, Dr. K became known for her dedication to students, support for the Hoover staff, and leadership at countless school events.
As news of her departure spread across campus, colleagues were quick to reflect on the impact she has made.
English teacher Kristineh Zakarian described Dr. K in just a few words.
“A strong, loyal, dedicated, beautiful leader.”
Fellow English teacher Pateel Eulmessekian said Hoover will not be the same without her.
“Romela is the heart and strength of Hoover.”
She added with a smile,
“We’re going to miss her heels.”
For ASB bookkeeper Aline Fazah, who worked alongside Dr. K for the past eight years, the friendship and teamwork they shared made a lasting impression.
“She is the pillar of ASB, especially events,” Fazah said. “I call her ‘bomb’ because in every way she’s the bomb.”
Beyond her leadership, Fazah said Dr. K’s sense of style became legendary around campus.
“She’s my fashionista. I always ask her about things.”
Hoover PTA President Isabel Abramyan said Dr. K’s willingness to help everyone stood out during her time working with families.
“I enjoyed her willingness to help everyone, no matter who they were,” Abramyan said. “She listened and tried to help. She was a great resource to our newcomers.”
Reflecting on her years at Hoover, Dr. K said the relationships she built will remain one of the most meaningful parts of her career.
“Since joining Hoover in 2018, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside an incredible faculty, office staff, students, and families,” she said. “I’ll miss the relationships we’ve built and the strong sense of community we’ve created together. Hoover has been an important part of my journey, and I’ll always be grateful for my time here.”
While she leaves behind a community that has become like family, Dr. K is excited for the opportunity to begin a new chapter at the school where her own educational journey began.
“I’m excited to join the Glendale High School community, get to know the staff and students, and build strong relationships,” she said. “I look forward to supporting the dedicated GHS staff as I have throughout my career, partnering with the administrative team to enhance student programs, and leading with intention to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
