Hoover High School senior Mary Ghazaryan has been accepted to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she plans to major in Political Science and pursue a career in law.
Ghazaryan shared that she discovered her acceptance while she was home alone—a moment she intentionally chose to experience privately.
“I wanted to be by myself when I opened the decision,” she said, explaining that it allowed her to fully take in the achievement.
Looking ahead to college, Ghazaryan is excited about the opportunities UCLA will provide.
“I’m really excited to explore all the opportunities and meet new people,” she said.
Her decision to follow a pre-law track comes from her long-standing interests in public speaking, advocacy, and history.
“Those subjects really led me toward law,” said Ghazaryan, who maintains a 4.53 cumulative grade-point average.
Reflecting on her journey, Ghazaryan expressed gratitude to those who supported her along the way. She gave special thanks to her teachers, particularly the History Department and Mrs. Hernandez, for their encouragement.
“I’m also very grateful for my family and friends,” she added.
Ghazaryan’s teachers praised her accomplishments and character.
Alexandra Mazmanian, her AP Research teacher and a UCLA alumna from the Class of 2020, said, “Mary is a true Bruin. She is both hardworking and humble, and she will change the world.”
Christian Hong, her AP U.S. History and AP Human Geography teacher, added, “Mary is a bright, smart, energetic, and compassionate student who made the most out of her four years at Hoover. She will be remembered for a long time as one of the all-time greats.”
