Under the Stars

On the evening of May 13, a warm and welcoming acoustic show was hosted by Hoover High senior Ellysee Baker.

Doors had opened at 6:30 P.M. and small groups of friends started filling in the spaces provided for the show starting at 7 P.M.

As it got closer to showtime, the first band began assembling their setup, and the crowd began to anticipate the music.

From there on the show started and the performing bands and artists were ready to seize the night with the music.

VHS Dream, Nate Horowitz, Untitled, and Mars Hale each had 20 to 30 minutes to play for each of their sets.

With each performers’ sets, the acoustic show flourished throughout the evening with original songs and covers that rode with the cool night breeze.

Baker was ecstatic seeing those that had attended the show having fun with one another and was happy for its success.

“When I went to introduce a band, just seeing everyone there at my house and how people were having fun just felt incomparably amazing,” Baker stated.

Baker stated that she was not exactly a part of the DIY show scene, so to her it was “overall just exciting and fun to immerse myself into their vibe as a host, and enter new perspectives.”

When asked of the possibility of shows she may host again in the future, she responded in the hopes of it happening.

“Of course it’s up to my parents whether I can have more, but I would love to have another in the summer,” she said.

“This one was an acoustic show so it was very laid back.

“But I’m totally down to throw another acoustic or even have a louder punk rock lineup.”
