The Make-A-Wish Club is a student-led organization that supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The club raises money and awareness to help grant wishes for children with critical illnesses while also giving students leadership experience and opportunities to earn community service hours.
All of the club’s officers are juniors. The president is Hasmik Hovhannisyan, the vice president is Matilda Madadian, the secretary is Inga Abelian, and the treasurer is Tatiana Bahadourian. These student leaders plan meetings, organize events, and ensure activities run smoothly. The club sponsor, Janna Kasmanian, provides guidance and support.
“I was so proud of the students for taking their time during lunch to think about others,” Kasmanian said. “Even something as simple as a handmade card can bring comfort and joy to a child who is going through a hard time. Their kindness truly makes a difference.”
The club met in Kasmanian’s classroom during lunch on Thursday and Friday for a special Valentine’s Day card-making event. Students gathered with friends to create Valentine cards for children in hospitals. The cards included kind messages, drawings, and positive words meant to brighten patients’ days.
“I liked making cards because it felt good knowing I could make someone smile,” said Hoover student Hasmik Mkrtchyan.
In December, the club also held a fundraiser selling Nutella pizza and raised $420. Many students supported the event and enjoyed the treat while contributing to a good cause.
“We started this club because we wanted to make a real difference in kids’ lives,” Hovhannisyan said. “Seeing so many students come together to make cards and support the fundraiser showed that our school really cares.”
