The Hoover Tornado Marching Band is on track for a strong finish to their 2025 marching season after competing in the Gahr Invitational Field Tournament hosted by Gahr High School on Saturday.
Hoover’s third California State Band Championships competition of the season yielded the Tornados with a total score of 82.600, rewarding them once again with the titles of tournament and division champions.
In addition to their stellar placing, the band obtained awards for high visuals, high percussion (87.50), and high auxiliary (85.50).
“This is the first time we’ve actually gotten high aux this year…But just because we got the award, it doesn’t necessarily mean we’re there yet,” said color guard captain Selia Noshadian. “We really need to have that golden run so it [feels] earned.”
“I think [high aux] does well for our team spirit,” said color guard captain Victoria Davila. “This is the first time the rookies have gotten it. I think especially this week, it’ll help them to push more so they’ll have a run during division that they won’t regret.”
Battery captain Adonis Stone has high expectations for the drumline and maintaining their streak of high percussion.
“I am proud of the drumline for continuing our 13 yearlong legacy of winning percussion in competitions, but before celebrating we need to realize the job is not done,” explained Stone. “I’m excited for the rest of the season and I’m going to make sure this drumline doesn’t relax until the final note.”
Similar to Noshadian, Davila, and Stone, drum major Erin Lee is hoping that their show at division finals will be their best run yet.
“I think the expectation is to always have the best run that we’ve ever had…we haven’t had a golden run yet,” stated Lee. “Result wise, the dream is always division champs. This year, I think we have a really good chance.”
