On Friday, a UC Irvine representative visited Hoover High’s College and Career Center during lunch.
Martina Arroyo, Hoover’s college advisor, hosted the visit to give students the opportunity to learn more about UCI’s admissions process, programs, and campus life.
Anna Olson, a UCI alumna, provided an in-depth presentation about the university, covering everything from academic programs to campus housing and student life.
“We offer various programs such as Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Criminology, Psychology, and more,” Olson shared.
She emphasized the importance of having a specific interest in a major before applying.
“Our classes are hands-on and research-based, and we encourage students to explore courses within their chosen field,” Olson explained.
Olson also provided insight into UCI’s admissions process. While selective, she noted that the application is straightforward.
“Students answer four out of eight PIQs, which makes it easier for incoming freshmen to apply successfully,” she said.
Beyond academics, Olson highlighted opportunities for involvement on campus.
“UCI, whose students are called Anteaters, offers numerous clubs, organizations, and events. Plus, we’re near Disneyland and located in the heart of Orange County,” she said.
She also described life on campus, including Aldrich Park, a central area where students can study, socialize, or attend events.
“Our on-campus housing includes residence halls and apartments with recreation spaces and study lounges,” Olson said. “Students also have access to multiple dining halls, cafes, and food courts across campus.”
