A group of Hoover High School students interested in learning more about college life took a field trip to California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) on Monday.
Organized by the Career Technical Education (CTE) program, the trip gave students the chance to explore the campus, learn about different academic programs, and experience what college life is like.
Armine Boyadzhyan, the CTE counselor, explained the purpose of the visit:
“It provides students with knowledge and exposure to opportunities, and it’s open to all grade levels,” she said. “It helps them think about their future and what they want to achieve, even at an early stage, including preparing for a four-year college experience.”
The group left school after first period, which ended at 9:15 a.m., and arrived at Cal State LA around 10:30 a.m. Students had some free time to walk around, grab snacks and drinks, and explore the campus.
The lively atmosphere and the sight of college students attending classes and enjoying the outdoors added to the excitement.
At 12:15 p.m., the students gathered in the Student Services Building to meet their tour guide.
The guide showed them around the campus, highlighting various facilities and academic programs. One program that stood out was the Nursing Program, renowned for providing strong preparation and opportunities for students aspiring to become nurses or doctors.
The visit also included an inspiring story about Olympic tennis legend Billie Jean King, who once attended Cal State LA and has returned to complete her history degree.
King, celebrated worldwide for her tennis achievements and advocacy for social justice and gender equality, served as a motivating example for students on the importance of education and perseverance.
After the tour, students returned to school, reflecting on what they had learned.
The trip offered an enjoyable and educational experience, especially for seniors preparing for life after high school. Visiting Cal State LA left many students feeling inspired and more excited about their future college plans.
